Professional Repair Services Ltd
78 Richard Street, Cathays, Cardiff CF24 4DD
We offer a computer build service for all types of application. Whether they are for the home, business or industrial environments we can make systems ideal for the application. We do not scrimp on graphical capabilities or RAM and pay attention to details like cooling and resistance to dust ingress, which can lead to premature failure of hardware. You can expect a computer from us that will last for years.
Computers can be specified by application, such as gaming, and/or cost. We offer high end rigs or cheap but reliable systems. The build service is very personal and two consultations will be made first to specify the system and second to choose and confirm satisfaction with the component selection, such as case, graphical ability and data storage space. We are NOT in the business of confusing the customer with marketing terms and supplying sub-standard equipment. You can be sure you have received well researched and the best components in your custom computer build.
For business customers with IT support that relies on specific common hardware across the business we can build in bulk to fit with your existing systems.
We can repair all computer systems, even non-standard systems with custom power supplies. For parts that may become unavailable in older computers we will rebuild with higher power replacement parts.
Lost a vital document on your usb drive or hard disk? Stop now and do not use the drive that had the document on - further usage could destroy remaining data still on your drive but not visible to you. We can recover specific or all files from a drive where the files are no longer visible. If you can still access the drive in almost all cases we can get all the data off it, whether they are deleted or damaged files. If the drive has been dropped and fails to spin up or is not recognised in the BIOS or when you plug your USB drive in most cases we can recover the data too.
Specification
Build an excellent gaming PC system for a
target price of £800. Keyboard, mouse and
speakers not required.
Component selection by PRS Ltd
Each component is chosen for the best price/performance ratio of
components available at the time to fit the budget of £800. The
priority of components were the graphics card, then the memory, then
processor for a smooth as possible gaming experience. The
motherboard is a high reliability version with Japanese solid
capacitors and a special high reliability processor power circuit
ideal for overclocking and high performance processors.
Quad-core Phenom II X4 925 processor
8Gb of PC10666 DDR3 RAM
1Tb Samsung F1 HD
Gigabyte ATI Radeon 4870 1Gb graphics card with Zalman cooler
Gigabyte Ultra Durable motherboard MA770T-UD3P
Samsung DVDRW
Ultra speed Wireless N card
Cooler Master Elite 334 case
Samsung 22in widescreen monitor
The HD is one of the fastest mainstream components on the market and
significantly improves the response of Windows which greatly
benefits from fast hard disk transfer speeds and seek times. Windows
7 absolutely flies on this system. The graphics card is ridiculously
fast and will run all modern games at very high graphics settings
and high resolutions with anti-aliasing. The amount of memory is
extreme and future proofs the computer for years to come. The case
chosen is a Cooler Master Elite 334, smart and understated with a
nice finish.
Here are a few photos going through the build process:

hard disk, memory and graphics card in the foreground. Behind is the
PSU, network card and motherboard. While the
widescreen TFT doesn't look so big in the picture it is a 22in
screen and note it is as tall as the PC case which is a full size
case!

Building
Assembly is handled with special care to avoid scratches so that the
finished PC is pristine in appearance. Precautions against static
are taken to protect the new components when installing them. The
appropriate level of care and attention is taken to ensure all
components are fitted securely, squarely and in a tidy fashion. All
wires are routed and tied properly.
3. Testing
Testing is accomplished by several methods...
Memtest86+
Before an OS is installed, the PC is tested by running memtest86+.
This tests the entire memory system on the computer and stresses the
processor and motherboard. Once this test is passed an operating
system is installed. In this case two were installed, Windows 7 and
Ubuntu Linux 9.10.

Linux
Benchmarks
Sisoft Sandra is used to further test the system for any
instability and provide some performance figures for the computer.
The benchmarks are run continuously to stress the system to show any
potential problems. If these tests pass then the last stage of
testing is commenced.
Graphical testing
A game that provides a heavy processor and graphical load is
used to test the stability of system while gaming, which is usually
the most stressful state for the computer to be in. The graphics
card and processor will be drawing a lot of power, so if the
computer passes an extended test then stability is pretty much
guaranteed.

Specification
Build a computer for the home, office and media,
with a build price of £500, two DVDRW drives, no
monitor, gaming is not important and the computer must be
upgradeable in the future.
Component selection by PRS Ltd
Dual-core Phenom II X2 545 processor 3.0Ghz
4Gb of PC10666 DDR3 RAM
1Tb Samsung F1 HD
Gigabyte Ultra Durable motherboard MA785GT-UD3H with Radeon HD 2400
graphics
Samsung DVDRW x 2
Ultra speed Wireless N card
Smart standard size case
52 in 1 card reader
The
motherboard is a high reliability version with Japanese solid
capacitors and a special high reliability processor power circuit
ideal for over-clocking and high performance processors. It has
Radeon HD 2400 integrated graphics which provides hardware
acceleration for viewing 1080p HD video and VGA, DVI and HDMI
outputs for flat screen HD TVs and hi-resolution monitors. During
testing, it proved itself the best in its class (integrated
graphics) for gaming, playing Half Life 2: Episode One at high
graphics settings at high frame rates. This was quite impressive, I
was not expecting the performance to be so good! The board has two
slots for additional graphics cards and so can be upgraded with ease
to make an excellent gaming machine if required.
The processor is fast and offers excellent performance in Windows 7.
It is actually a quad core unit with two cores locked. These can be
unlocked in the BIOS to get a quad core high performance processor
for free! The ability to unlock a core and for the computer to
remain stable is not guaranteed, some may unlock fully, some may
unlock to give 3 cores and some may not unlock at all. Your mileage
may vary.
The HD is one of the fastest mainstream components on the market
and significantly improves the response of Windows which greatly
benefits from fast hard disk transfer speeds and seek times.
Components
The case, motherboard, processor, hard disk, RAM, wireless
card, card reader, two DVDRW, keyboard and mouse.
Complete system
The result is a nice, smart computer. Due to the camera
flash, the texture difference between the case and the DVD drives
has shown up, in reality the two are the same dark black colour.
Customer reception
The customer was impressed by the look of the computer upon
delivery and feedback will be published soon.
Our prices are very competitive with other computer makers. Always pay attention to the component specification when looking at computers, for every computer that seemed cheaper than this system there was a catch e.g. old-generation graphics card, small hard disk, substandard motherboard, old or obsolete sockets. Often, the case was very flash and attractive from a high end manufacturer while the internal components suffered due to the additional cost of a high end case. Every computer from us is built to your specification with advice from us to fill in any gaps. You specify the cost, what you do or don't want, what manufacturers you prefer, whether you want it lit up like a Christmas tree or lurking in a corner like a stealthy beast. It really is your PC.
